Brantford's Town Crier Wows Chester, England This Week, the City of Chester welcomed 40 of the world's finest proclaimers, drawn from many nations. The Lord Mayor's Invitational World Tournament added colour and Pageantry to one of England's finest Historic Cities from the 16th to the 21st June.
Last night, in a glittering Civic ceremony at the City's Town Hall, the judges announced the champion of the Tournament along with the winners in a number of different categories rewarding content, dress and humour.
Brantford's own Town Crier, David McKee, took a share in the honours placing first in the "Best Content of Historical Cry", where he extolled the virtues of his own beloved home town. David was placed second overall, narrowly missing out to Michael Wood from Yorkshire England.
A delighted David McKee declared, " Being in Chester for this Tournament has been an absolutely marvellous experience. Chester's 2000 years of history lend itself perfectly to this tournament. This is my first visit to the City and I would love to return. The tournament has been extremely well organised and I have loved every minute.
The highlights of the event included a visit to Wales as the border is just 3 miles away! and a visit to a local school where the children age 5 - 10 were treated to David's stories of life as a Canadian Town Crier.
David will be returning to Canada tomorrow, arriving in Toronto at 11.25am local time on 23rd June with his beautiful new award.
